And the winner is...

Yes, I know.  This is SUPER late, but better late than never, right?

If you remember back here the boy and I went to a pumpkin patch in search for the perfect pumpkin to carve.  We had a bet to see who had the best carving skilz.

My pumpkin is on the left (it was HUGE and super heavy).  Hep's is on the right.  It looks big but it was more on the tall and skinny side.

Hep hard at work.

I have to be honest.  I had never in my life carved a pumpkin before this night.  Growing up my Dad did all the work while we sat back and "ooohed and aaahed".  I had no clue how hard it is to get all of the guts out of those things!  Hep on the other hand is a pro and was kind enough to give me some pointers.  It took me twice as long to finish but I am very proud of finished product!

I went for a spider design.  My Mom is a teacher and growing up Halloween was her favorite holiday.  All of her kids used to call her Mrs. Spiders so spider decorations became big around this time of year in my family.

Hep decided to challenge himself a bit more and went with a spooky grave yard scene.

 The finished products.

For some reason Hep's candle wasn't very bright.

To be fair, I think Hep won this round, but I think I did a pretty good job too!  Next year we'll have to rematch!

After a long night of carving I whipped up a batch of jack-o-lantern cupcakes for Hep to take to his guys at work.  I don't know what happened to my decorating skills, these didn't look so ghetto when I was younger!

The next day while Hep was at work I had the great idea to carve two more pumpkins.  I wanted to make one with a Texan's logo and one with a Bronco's logo.  Not too shabby for my first year!

A Day at the Pumpkin Patch

A few weekends ago the boy and I took a little drive to check out a local pumpkin patch.

It was awesome!  Amazing as it is, I have never in my life been to a pumpkin patch.  I'm not sure if they are more popular now, but when I was a kid we would just grab a pumpkin at the local grocery store.  I am definitely a fan of the patch though.

When we walked in we just grabbed a wagon.

I was amazed at the selection they had.  I have never seen so many pumpkins in one place!

At one point a little boy around 5 walked up to Hep, looked in our wagon full of mini pumpkins and said, "Awww!  How cute!  Look at you with your cute baby pumpkins!"  I cracked up!  Hep tries to big and tough but even he laughed and admitted he looked pretty funny.

For the last few weeks the boy and I have been talking "smack" to each other about who will be the better pumpkin carver.  We each chose a "canvas" (basically the biggest we could find) and will have a contest to see who has the better skilz.

We ended up with 2 huge pumpkins, 2 small ones and 18 (yes, EIGHTEEN) minis.

It was funny that we were the only couple there without kidos and definitely had the most loot in our wagon.

We had a blast and can't wait to breakout the carving tools!

Here goes nothin'...

Hello all!  I've been a long time blog reader and have always wanted to start a blog but didn't think I had anything interesting to write about.  Until now...

I recently (like last week) moved from Texas, where I was born and raised, to Colorado to follow my heart.  Almost a year ago I met an awesome guy.  The only problem?  He lived about 1,200 miles away.  After doing the whole long distance thing for a while we finally decided that it was time we took the next step and lived a little closer to each other so I packed up my condo, and along with my babies (Libby the dog and Owen the cat), flew to Grand Junction, CO.

It is quite a change going from this...

to this..
but so far so good!

The weather here is beautiful- a huge change from the 100+ degrees I'm used to in Houston.  My car arrived two days ago and my shipment is due to arrive Monday morning.  I can't wait to be able to really unpack and settle in.

This blog will hopefully help me keep my family and friends back home up to date with things going on around here.  I'm pretty all over the place so sometimes it may just be a journal of how I'm feeling one day and others it may be a yummy recipe I tried out or cute top I'm in need of.

Happy reading!
